Description
This intensive five day course will introduce the history, technology, chemistry, properties, deterioration, and treatment of polychrome and painted coating materials and colorants, along with decorative finishing techniques and compensation treatments for damaged painted finishes.
Much like last year’s course on transparent finishes, this course will be organized along three major themes.
- The History of Painted Coatings - What Was It Originally?
- Technology of Materials and Processes for Decorative Finishes - What Is It, and How Do we Know?
- What Will We do About It - Treatment Decisions and Processes to Compensate for Damage to Painted Finishes.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a small restoration project involving a painted wooden object for studio exercises.s
