Description
This is a five day "hands on" wood finishing class. Sessions include: The proper preparation of wood, methods of using stains, dyes, glazes and toners to color wood. Understanding why and how to apply oils, shellac, lacquer, varnish, polyurethane and water base coatings using rags, brushes and spraying equipment. How to create the desired sheen and maintain that sheen will also be covered. Problem solving and repairing finishing defects such as blotching, orange peel and fish eye will be explained. Students will keep all of the panels they make.
Training Includes
Conventional hands on sessions include methods of using stains, dyes and how to color match. Closed pored finishes be using wood fillers, applications of finish including "hands on" rubbing oil finishes, rub on varnishes, French Polishing with shellac, brushing, padding and spraying techniques using HVLP, pressure pots and conventional systems for all finishes will be covered. Emphasis will then be placed on how to rub out the finish that you have applied and how to take care of it. Problem solving and fixing finishing defects such as blotching, orange peeling, brush marks and fish eye will be covered along the way to achieve that finished look you want.

What Will You Work On?
Participants are encouraged to bring their pieces to work on and to bring any problems and questions along. Sample panels will be supplied to work on if you don't wish to bring your own furniture. This workshop is open to wood workers and wood finishers of all levels of experience.
